Building support from individual donors and values-aligned corporate supporters is an increasingly important part of ILGA World’s long-term sustainability and independence. As part of ILGA World’s 2025–2029 strategic plan, strengthening the organisation’s internal capacity and resilience depends not only on programme funding, but also on flexible income that can help sustain core functions, respond quickly to emerging needs, and support movement infrastructure over time.

ILGA World’s fundraising context is shaped by a rapidly changing global environment for LGBTIQ human rights. Government funding is increasingly influenced by political shifts and geopolitical priorities, while many philanthropic foundations are moving towards shorter grant cycles and more restrictive requirements. Corporate giving has also become more complex, with some companies reducing visible support for LGBTIQ rights in response to politicised backlash. These trends increase volatility for the movement and underline the importance of diversifying income and growing sources of support that are less dependent on public funding cycles.

Within this context, individual giving offers a pathway to build a broader base of solidarity and predictable support. By developing clear donor journeys, strong stewardship practices, and accessible ways to give, ILGA World can grow a community of supporters who contribute to the organisation’s long-term sustainability. ILGA World already uses platforms such as GlobalGiving, including features that enable U.S. tax receipting and UK Gift Aid. Strengthening how these options are communicated to donors, and ensuring that giving is simple and trustworthy, can help remove barriers and increase conversion and retention.

Corporate support can also help strengthen ILGA World’s sustainability, but it must be approached with care. ILGA World’s corporate support work is grounded in values-led decision-making, ethical screening, and due diligence. This ensures that corporate supporters align with ILGA World’s mission and that relationships do not create harm, compromise independence, or place undue burdens on staff or members. In practice, this means focusing on a smaller number of higher-fit corporate supporters, prioritising longer-term commitments, and ensuring clear internal processes to assess and manage reputational risk.

The Individual Giving and Corporate Support Specialist contributes to this work by building repeatable systems and practices that strengthen donor experience and stewardship, improve coordination between fundraising, communications, and finance, and support a culture of philanthropy that reflects ILGA World’s queer feminist and relational values. The role helps ensure that fundraising communications are accurate, non-extractive, and grounded in solidarity and collective care, while strengthening the internal systems needed to manage and grow support responsibly.

The aims of individual giving and corporate support at ILGA World are to:

  • Grow flexible, predictable income from individual donors through annual appeals, monthly giving, and strong stewardship that builds trust and long-term commitment
  • Strengthen donor experience by improving how ILGA World communicates giving options and donor benefits, including clear information on U.S. tax receipting and UK Gift Aid via GlobalGiving
  • Build repeatable supporter journeys and practical tools that enable ILGA World to run 2 to 3 high-quality campaigns each year without undue operational burden
  • Develop a pipeline for mid-size and major gifts, supporting relational cultivation and long-term donor retention in ways that are consistent with ILGA World’s values and duty of care
  • Stabilise and grow values-aligned corporate support through ethical screening, due diligence, and clear internal decision-making processes that protect ILGA World’s credibility and independence
  • Strengthen coordination across fundraising, communications, and finance to ensure timely acknowledgements, accurate record keeping, appropriate data protection, and consistent reporting
  • Uphold ILGA World’s queer feminist and relational values by using non-extractive communications, respecting dignity and safety, and ensuring accountability to communities and the movement.

Overview

The Individual Giving and Corporate Support Specialist is an integral part of ILGA World, strengthening the organisation’s ability to mobilise flexible resources by growing support from individual donors and values-aligned corporate supporters.

This is a part-time (50%), fixed-term staff position for 18 months, focused on building repeatable systems and delivering priority fundraising activities during the contract term. Renewal or extension may be possible, depending on available funding and performance in the role.

The role is responsible for developing and implementing ILGA World’s individual giving and corporate support work as a core contribution to the organisation’s broader strategic goals and priorities, including those set out in the 2025–2029 strategic plan.

The Specialist ensures that ILGA World’s fundraising approaches are relational, values-led, and responsive to a fast-changing global context in which funding for human rights and gender justice is increasingly volatile.

The Specialist leads the design and delivery of key supporter engagement activities, including prospecting, annual and seasonal appeals, monthly giving, donor stewardship journeys, and targeted cultivation of mid-size and major gifts. The role also supports the organisation in stabilising and growing corporate support through clear ethical screening, due diligence processes, and supporter offers that align with ILGA World’s mission, values, and responsibilities to the movement.

Working closely with the Fundraising and MEL Manager and colleagues across ILGA World, the Specialist helps strengthen coherence between resource mobilisation, communications, and programme priorities, ensuring that fundraising messages are accurate, non-extractive, and grounded in solidarity and collective care. The role contributes to improved systems for donor data, reporting, and internal coordination, supporting ILGA World to build a sustainable base of flexible income over time.

During the first 12 months, the successful candidate will contribute to:

  • establishing or strengthening a monthly giving programme with clear supporter journeys and stewardship
  • delivering 2 to 3 supporter campaigns per year with learning and improvement between cycles
  • implementing consistent corporate ethical screening and due diligence, and reporting monthly fundraising KPIs.

The Individual Giving and Corporate Support Specialist supports and reports to the Fundraising and MEL Manager in delivering ILGA World’s individual giving and corporate support efforts, and contributes to strengthening the organisation’s resourcing resilience amid increased funding volatility.

Specific to this 18-month, 50% position, this includes:

  • Develop and implement an 18-month individual giving and corporate support workplan, including clear targets, timelines, key moments, and a realistic delivery cadence, aligned with ILGA World’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan and values
  • Lead the design and delivery of individual giving activities, including 2 to 3 supporter campaigns per year, improvements to donor journeys (welcome, monthly giving, annual giving, upgrade and reactivation), and a stewardship rhythm that supports retention and long-term commitment
  • Build and grow a monthly giving programme, including proposition development, supporter communications, onboarding and donor care, and simple upgrade paths
  • Strengthen annual giving and donor stewardship, including acknowledgements, impact updates, and donor communications that are accurate, non-extractive, dignity-centred, and grounded in solidarity and collective care
  • Support the cultivation of mid-size and major gifts, including identifying and prioritising prospects, preparing briefing materials, coordinating leadership touchpoints, and supporting follow-up and stewardship in collaboration with the Fundraising and MEL Manager and relevant colleagues
  • Stabilise and grow values-aligned corporate support, including strengthening renewal and retention approaches, developing clear supporter offers, and ensuring a consistent approach to corporate outreach that reflects ILGA World’s mission and responsibilities to the movement
  • Establish and implement corporate ethical screening and due diligence processes, including an escalation route for reputational risk, and ensure that all new corporate supporters are assessed and documented in line with ILGA World’s values, duty of care, and policies
  • Improve fundraising systems and internal coordination, including strengthening processes in GlobalGiving and DonorBox, improving donor data quality and segmentation, and coordinating with the finance team on reconciliation, record keeping, and reporting
  • Work closely with the communications team to develop clear supporter-facing narratives and materials, ensuring that fundraising communications are consistent, accessible, and aligned with ILGA World’s values and safeguarding responsibilities
  • Monitor and report on progress, including maintaining a simple KPI dashboard and providing regular updates on income, donor growth, retention, and pipeline progress, with clear learning and recommendations for adjustment
  • Contribute to agreed success measures for the role, including delivery of 2 to 3 campaigns per year, growth of monthly giving, implementation of corporate due diligence, and monthly KPI reporting.

General

  • Work collaboratively as part of the ILGA World staff team, contributing to cross-team coordination and shared organisational priorities
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role.

Relationships with colleagues

ILGA World values creative and inclusive approaches to work achieved through cross-service-area collaboration and the participation of staff at all levels in the organisation.
