This privacy policy sets out how ILGA World uses and protects any information you give when you use this website. We commit to ensuring that your privacy is protected.

Who we are

This website (ilga.org), together with any non-English language versions (the ilga.org websites), is provided by ILGA World.

We take seriously the privacy of you as a user of the ILGA World websites and any information we collect from you. This document sets out our privacy policy in relation to you and your personal data.

How do we collect information, and what for?

We collect certain information when you visit our website and sign up to receive newsletters, donate, register for an event, send an enquiry, apply for a scholarship, or otherwise provide us with personal information.

What information do we collect?

Data we might collect includes your IP address, location information, name and email address. Additional information may be collected as you apply for scholarships, register for events, or apply for your organisation to become a member of ILGA World.

The ILGA websites use Google Analytics to collect data about the use of our websites. This information is anonymous: online behaviour cannot be traced back to individuals. For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Depending on the purposes of the processing, we collect different personal data from you. These are listed below.

For you to donate to ILGA World via the website, we process your name, email, billing address and any other information you provide. When you register to attend our World Conference, request a scholarship, or propose a session, we process your contact details. We use a third party provider, CiviCoop, to process subscriptions on CiviCRM. Follow this link to see CiviCRM’s privacy policy for more details.

Please note that our registration form might include personal data. This type of content might also include special categories of data (e.g., data concerning sexual orientation and/or gender identity).

When you fill in the contact form, we process your name, email and your message. We use this personal data to respond to your query and be in touch with you.

What do we do with the information we collect?

ILGA World uses the information we collect about you to help us understand how our website is used, to send communications about ILGA World’s news and events, LGBTI news from around the world, or other information which we think you may find interesting, for administration purposes and to further our strategic goals — including for fundraising activities.

We do not store your personal data longer than is strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which your data is collected.

ILGA World uses PayPal to process card payments and regular donations. Follow this link to view PayPal’s privacy policy. We do not store the payment card details you provide to make a payment.


Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Your rights

Users have the right to view and correct personal data at all times. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You also have the right to withdraw your consent for ILGA World to process your data, or to object to the data processes in place at ILGA World. You can send a request for access, correction, deletion, transfer of your personal data or a request for cancellation of your consent, as well as any objection to the processing of your personal data to privacy[at]ilga[dot]org. We will respond to your request as soon as possible, within four weeks.

Opting out of our newsletters and other mailings

All our digital newsletters have a link by which recipients can remove themselves from the email list. If you experience difficulties cancelling your subscription, please email media[at]ilga[dot]org. We will respond to your request as soon as possible, within four weeks.


We commit to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access, unwanted disclosure or unauthorised modification, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

ILGA World mostly operates outside of the European Economic Area (EEA).

Countries outside the EEA all have different laws regarding protecting your personal information. When your information is moved from your home country to another country, the laws and rules that protect your personal information in the country to which your information is transferred may differ from those in the country where you live.

By using our services, you understand that ILGA World may share some of your personal information with other ILGA World members and partners in non-EEA countries, for purposes described in this privacy statement.
