Hello everybody!

Welcome to ILGA World’s informative video series about the Sustainable Development Goals. In this video, I’m going to talk about Sustainable Development Goal number 2: Zero Hunger.

In 2021, nearly 828 million people experienced hunger across the world. That means 9 out of every 100 people! SDG 2 comes with five specific targets, all working towards the ultimate objective of ending hunger worldwide by 2030. These targets involve, among others, guaranteeing universal access to safe and nutritious food, eradicating malnutrition and investing in rural infrastructure, research, and technology.

So, how does this impact the LGBTI community?

Well, recent research reveals clear links between LGBTI populations and elevated rates of food insecurity and malnutrition. For example, LGBTI people are more likely to face difficulties reaching their nutritional needs due to having lower incomes, living in poverty or facing systematic exclusion from basic services.
This has a knock-on effect, as limited access to healthcare, education, housing, and employment presents significant barriers to accessing nutritious foods.
