Laws on Us: A global overview of legal progress and backtracking on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics
First released in May 2024, Laws on Us is the new flagship report by ILGA World. Together with the ILGA World Database, it follows in the footsteps of our previous landmark reports (namely, the State-Sponsored Homophobia and the Trans Legal Mapping Report) to equally look at legal developments affecting our communities across the world on the grounds of our sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics.
The report tracks development in eleven legal categories: the criminalisation of consensual same-sex sexual acts; restrictions to freedom of expression and association; prohibition of discrimination; hate crime law; prohibition of incitement to hatred, violence or discrimination; regulation of so-called ‘conversion therapies’; marriage equality and other forms of civil unions; adoption by same-sex couples; restrictions on interventions on intersex minors; and legal gender recognition.
ILGA World released the first edition of Laws on Us report on 30 May 2024.
