19 June 2024: Launch of Declaration + 25

 
During the 56th Human Rights Councilan inter-governmental body within the United Nations which has the responsibility to promote and protect human rights. It is comprised of 47 member States, each elected to 3-year terms by the 193 member States of the United Nations. More, a global coalition of 18 organisations launched the Declaration +25, a document supplementing the 1998 UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders.

The document was presented afteer a year-long period of consultations with defenders, legal analysis and a meeting of experts, and is a strong  call to action for the protection and promotion of human rights defenders. Read more here
