Relive the 2024 ILGA World Conference

Today, ILGA World proudly unveils its new report and companion documentary, capturing the energy and impact of our recent World Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Returning to African soil for the first time in 25 years, our latest ILGA World Conference brought together over 1,450 delegates from more than 100 countries, hosted under the banner “Kwa umoja we rise” by local organisations Iranti and Gender DynamiX.

For five days, activists, researchers, policymakers, human rights defenders, and LGBTI communities convened to strategise, uplift voices, and respond to mounting anti‑rights backlash across the globe.

In its day-to-day diary of the event, the report shows what it feels like when ILGA World gathers our global community together to walk the talk of cross-movement solidarity!

“It has been inspiring to witness our community listening to one another, engaging in complex discussions, embracing our differences, and standing together with other progressive causes and advocacy efforts.
Our shared dream of a world where everyone can live authentically and without fear is what keeps us united—across borders, cultures, and communities.”

Kimberly Frost and Yuri Guaiana, ILGA World co-Secretaries General

“The conference saw strong collaboration between advocates for sexual and reproductive health, an equitable HIV response, and LGBTI people’s rights. It heard urgent calls to fund our futures. It reminded us of the power of communities. […] We will build our future on these powerful days.”
