Constellation 2048

The word “Constellation” above the text “2048,” with a thin circular ring replacing the zero and small orange, yellow, and purple dots along the ring’s edge.

Bringing people together to reimagine a just future

Constellation 2048 is a global initiative uniting Amnesty International, ILGA World, and IPPF to build a visionary framework for 21st-century human rights governance. Join us in co-creating transformational solutions to combat inequality, authoritarianism, and systemic crisis.

  • What is Constellation 2048?

Constellation 2048 is a group of change initiatives working towards a just future. It brings together campaigners, thinkers, organisations, partners, and communities to reimagine global governance and human rights for the world we need by 2048 — a date that will mark one hundred years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

  • How did this come about?

In 2025, Amnesty International ILGA World, and the International Planned Parenthood Federation came together to respond to converging threatening crises — including the breakdown of the multilateral system established in the aftermath of World War Two, rising authoritarian practices, deepening inequalities, technological disruption, the climate crisis, and shrinking civic space.

Constellation 2048 builds on the 2048 Commission set up by Amnesty Secretary General Agnes Callamard in 2021.

Tasked with bringing global human rights governance into 21st-century relevance, the 2048 Commission established working groups to advise on the transformations and innovations we need for a global governance system that allows people to exercise their universal and indivisible human rights, even in this era of rapid and unpredictable change.

  • Who is Constellation 2048 for?

Constellation 2048 is for everyone concerned with building a global system centred on human rights protection, now and in the future. It is for civil society,  commissioners, working group members, academics, journalists, and other movement actors who care to rethink how people are and will be able to exercise their human rights.

  • Can individuals and organisations contribute?

The 2048 Commission is a consultative phase which will accept organisational and individual submissions across thematic areas. There will be public consultations where you will be able to join conversations and contribute perspectives — from any community and movement. We developed a toolkit to support this process: this will help working groups, partners, and participation organisations to design accessible and meaningful consultations.
