Elected at the ILGA World Conference, Cape Town, November 2024

Gabriel Barahona Escobar (he/him) is a trans man, graphic designer, activist and human rights defender. Gabriel collaborates at regional and international levels with various platforms and networks of organisations, addressing intersectional issues affecting LGBTIQ+ people — such as human mobility, the situation of people deprived of liberty, enforced disappearances and the systematisation of bias-motivated violence. At the local level, he has developed advocacy strategies and worked with different actors to ensure the legal recognition of the right to identity for trans people in El Salvador.
