LGBTI Pathways survey now open: Shape the future of funding for LGBTI communities worldwide

The LGBTI Pathways survey is now open for LGBTI civil society organisations and allied groups across the world! Read more Read less
  • LGBTI Pathways is a global resource mobilisation research project by the Global Philanthropy Project and ILGA World that will develop credible, reliable, and accurate evidence on the needs, priorities, and funding landscape of international and regional LGBTI movements
  • With this survey, we will build clear evidence that funders and organisations that do LGBTI work can use to improve how they support the movement
  • You have until 21 April 2026 to complete the survey: start now and share it fellow organisations, activists, and community groups — especially those hard to reach

Whether we are longtime activists or newly-formed collectives, we all want to keep our communities safe, welcoming and serving them to the best of our capacity. Accessing resources is what ensures that we keep showing up for our fellow LGBTI folks, across all backgrounds, identities, or lived experiences.

But today, reactionary governments keep turning their backs to people in need, while they continue to shrink spaces for civil society organisations and leave them to operate among legal restrictions, public attacks, and rising costs. The funding that strengthens our LGBTI communities is shifting rapidly, and it’s more important than ever that donors make decisions based on the needs of the communities affected.

But we know that other ways are possible. Organisations that work with and for LGBTI people must receive support that matches their real needs. When we approach funders for more and better funding for LGBTI movements, we need reliable data to show what the gaps are.

You can help things change. Take the LGBTI Pathways survey and share your experience: together, we will build clear evidence — based on real stories and real data from the ground —that funders and organisations that do LGBTI work can use to improve how they support the movement.

LGBTI Pathways

LGBTI Pathways is a global resource mobilisation research project by the Global Philanthropy Project and ILGA World that will develop credible, reliable, and accurate evidence on the needs, priorities, and funding landscape of the international and regional LGBTI movements.

Why this survey matters

This survey is a unique opportunity to help understand the funding needs and realities of organisations and activists that work with, and for, LGBTI people in every region of the world, identify gaps, and support better funding decisions and advocacy.

With concrete data and stories, we will create a robust evidence base to:

  • make funding decisions more targeted and responsive.
  • reduce “one‑size‑fits‑all” approaches that overlook local nuances.
  • highlight urgent gaps and long‑term investment opportunities.

What we are asking

The questionnaire seeks input from LGBTI civil society organisations and allied groups on four core areas:

  • Funding and sustainability
  • Capacity and organisational needs
  • Partnerships
  • Future priorities
  • Regionally-specific issues

All responses are confidential: LGBTI Pathways will not request your organisation’s name in the survey, and your safety will be a priority at all times.

When can I take the survey?

The LGBTI Pathways survey will be open from 28 January to 21 April 2026.
Follow this link to take the survey.

How will we value your input?

Once the survey is complete, our researchers will compare the data with the Global Resources Report—a reliable and trusted 12-year benchmark used to map money going to LGBTI movements. Together, they will produce a global gaps analysis, highlighting mismatches between donor reporting and on‑the‑ground needs, and comprehensive global and regional reports.

With these documents, your experience will feed directly into advocacy with donors, institutions, and policymakers, creating improved funding strategies, and helping to shift the narrative toward stronger, evidence‑based support.

Get involved – beyond the survey

The more LGBTI organisations and allied groups take the LGBTI Pathways survey, the more precise our snapshot will be! Here is how you can help.

  • Spread the word: Share the survey link with fellow organisations, activists, and community groups — especially those hard to reach
  • Encourage early participation: Prompt colleagues to complete the survey soon to avoid a last‑minute rush
  • Stay engaged: We already have some events planned to brief donors, discuss your funding situation, and address questions about the survey. Follow updates on the LGBTI Pathways website to learn more!

However you serve and show up for our communities, your experience matters. Please take the survey and help shape what supporting our fellow LGBTI folks should look like next!
