The Secretary Generals of ILGA and the ILGA Board, congratulate former co-secretary general Lisa Power for featuring in this year’s Honour list of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to sexual health and to the LGBT community. Co-Secretary general Gloria Careaga sent LIsa Power a message saying the ILGA Boardmembers are extremely happy about this public acknowledgment of her achievements and her work and they are also very proud that a former co-Secretary General of ILGA was given this honour:
Lisa Power has been consistently involved in human rights campaigns for the past 25 years, first as a writer and activist for lesbian and gay rights and then, since the 1980s, in HIV and sexual health. She was a founder member of the Stonewall Group, the UK’s leading gay rights lobby group, and was General Secretary of the International Lesbian and Gay Association, being the first person to speak at the United Nations on behalf of gay rights. Lisa has spoken at, and presented research to, many international and national bodies and conferences. She is presently working as Head of Policy at the Terrence Higgins Trust in London.
