ILGA-Europe

FOR LGBTI PEOPLE’S EQUALITY AND FREEDOM ACROSS EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA

The mission

ILGA-Europe acts as a regional voice in Europe and Central Asia for the rights of those who face discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics, including those who are at particular risk due to intersecting factors.

The region works to achieve equality, inclusion, and social justice for LGBTI people and ensure protection from human rights violations, discrimination, and violence by instigating legal, political, institutional and social change in the region.

ILGA-Europe also empowers LGBTI organisations and groups, and their allies, to advocate for the effective enjoyment of human rights by everyone, and to advocate for full LGBTI equality and inclusion in all aspects of society.

The role

ILGA-Europe sees its role as to enable the movement for LGBTI rights in Europe and Central Asia and be its connector. ILGA-Europe unites activists with allies – and puts institutional actors in touch with the issues that the community and the movement care about.

With that in mind, the ILGA region builds strategic partnerships with LGBTI allies in society, like the private sector, and nurtures greater alliances between LGBTI and other equality and social justice movements.
