Verde Gil Jiménez (he/him) has been the founder and general coordinator of the Trans Masculinos de Cuba Group (GTMC) since 2023, a nationwide support network that combines community support, empowerment, and advocacy for trans men and individuals assigned female at birth.
Through the GTMC, he promotes a strategy for employment integration and facilitates access to key health and gender-affirming resources. He organised the First and Second National Trans Masculinities Events, held in Santa Clara (2024) and Havana (2025). With a degree in Social Communication, he is vice president of the Chair of Gender and Human Development at the “Marta Abreu” Central University of Las Villas. He has given lectures on queer archaeology, trans health, gender, and trans identities at the university. He has served as a panellist in several editions of the International Colloquium on Trans Identities, Gender, and Culture, and has actively collaborated in the Cuban Days Against Homophobia and Transphobia, promoted by the National Centre for Sex Education.
Verde has conducted research on trans realities across law, education, sport, and the cultural industry. He has also researched trans men’s health, trans parenthood, and trans workplace inclusion. He was a special guest on the course “Addressing Trans Childhoods and Adolescence from a Bioethical and Human Rights Perspective” offered by the Centre for Youth Studies. He participated in the panel “Emerging Issues in Activism and Social Movements in Latin America and the Caribbean” at the International Forum on Activism and Social Movements in Latin America and the Caribbean, organised by CLACSO.
His political work is expressed not only in the academic sphere but also through the organisation of cultural spaces that highlight the structural barriers faced by trans people, and through the promotion in Cuba of Trans Visibility Day and Trans Remembrance Day via public, artistic, and community-based actions. He has designed campaigns and educational communication materials such as AhSoyTrans, Uniformes para Todxs, and the Trans Men’s Health Guide in Cuba.
He has actively participated in public debates on the Family Code, the Code on Children, Adolescents, and Youth, the Labour Code, the Health Law, the Civil Registry Law, and the Sports System Law, channelled the demands of the trans community to the National Assembly of People’s Power, and mobilised the participation of trans people in the national political dialogue.
