Gay Umbrella is hosting the fifth annual Mr and Miss Gay competition, as well as a Pride Parade, in Klerksdorp on 10 December.

This will be the third North West Pride and the second to be held in Klerksdorp, a city and administrative district located in the North West Province of South Africa.

It will start at the sports ground in Jouberton and make its way through the township. Those who want to participate must start arriving at the sport ground at 10am for the parade to start at 11am.

After the parade there will be an educational seminar aimed at gay youth which starts at 2pm at Rio Casino and Hotel.

Since its inception in 2007, Gay Umbrella has hosted an annual Mr and Miss Gay/Lesbian beauty pageant. This year it presents the fifth Mr and Miss Gay Umbrella Pageant and it will be held at the Rio Casino & Hotel in Klerksdorp.

Organisers said in a press release, “Beautiful people who want to participate in this fun event must contact the organisers before the end of November. Entry forms are now available and the categories include Mr and Miss Gay and Mr and Miss Lesbian. Participants must be 16 years or older and must reside in the North West Province. The contestants must prepare to walk in casual, swim and evening wear.”

Gay Umbrella’s press release added, “Talented performers are also encouraged to take part in the programme. Singers, dancers, drag artists and others who think they can wow an audience are invited to step forward.”

The pageant starts at 18h00 for 18h30 and tickets are R 100, available at Rio Casino and Hotel. The pageant will be preceded by a Pride Parade.
