In this new episode of our video series on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we look at Goal number 4, focusing on quality education, and why this goal is particularly relevant for LGBTI people.
SDG 4 focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all. It calls on all nations to provide access to education, enable lifelong learning opportunities, and foster equal educational prospects.
SDG #4 focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all. It calls all nations to provide access to education, enable lifelong learning opportunities, and foster equal educational prospects.
When it comes to LGBTI children, stereotypes and bullying are major barriers to accessing education and children that are perceived as gender non-conforming often face discrimination. Many school explicitly ban non-normative identities and expressions and studies have shown that LGBTI youth experienced high levels of verbal abuse at school, with some even having suffered physical violence.1
Ultimately, SDG #4 serves as a powerful tool for LGBTI advocates to combat discrimination, facilitate access, and promote equal opportunities, fostering the development of fair and inclusive education systems for everyone.
