2016 ILGA World Conference: the programme is out!

Dear ILGA members and friends,
the time has come: the 28th ILGA World Conference, hosted by Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand and Purple Sky Network, is about to kick off.

From November 28 to December 2, LGBTI human rights defenders and allies from all over the world will gather in Bangkok, Thailand. It will be a time to meet again, to network, to take stock of the many groundbreaking moments celebrated by our communities in the past few years and to strategize about our future.

With almost 700  expected participants gathering from all the six ILGA regions, this is going to be by far the biggest ILGA World Conference to date.

And the conference programme is as rich as ever.
On Wednesday 30 we will be pleased to host the first-ever UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity: mr. Vitit Muntarbhorn will be among the keynote speakers at the opening plenary, will join a reception to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Yogyakarta Principles and will take part in a Q&A session, where conference attendees will have the chance to hear more closely about his approach and vision for his recently upheld mandate.

But that’s not all: this ILGA World Conference will mark a handful of firsts. Tuesday 29, for example, will see our first-ever Bisexual Pre-Conference. Topics like sex work, LGBTI refugees and climate change will be addressed for the first time in our gatherings. A new format – short presentations that we decided to call Rainbow Talks – will officially make its debut.
Finally, this year ILGA decided to launch its first mobile app: registered conference attendees will be able to access it and find a detailed programme, plan their sessions, look for organisations they want to connect with and even network with other attendees.

Oh, and did we mentioned our rich and vibrant social programme, culminating with a river cruise party?
