ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, is the world federation of national and local organisations dedicated to achieving equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGTBI) people. On behalf of its members and through advocacy, empowerment and research, ILGA speaks and lobbies in international fora on behalf of more than 1,200 member organisations from 132 countries to promote and protect human rights of LGBTI people. As an organisation, ILGA was founded in 1978 and represents LGBTI civil society within the United Nations and other international organisations. As per its vision, ILGA is committed to help shaping a world where the human rights of all are respected; where everyone can live in equality and freedom; where global justice and equity are assured and established regardless of the people’s sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and sex.
As it prepares to celebrate 40 years, ILGA wishes to recruit an accomplished not-for-profit leader to take the organisation to its next level of achievement in effecting positive change for LGBTI people and improving global societies. Reporting to the Executive Board, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the successful operations, financial and human resources management, and strategic leadership of the organisation.
The new ED will be an innovative and collaborative leader who builds rapport quickly and establishes strong, productive relationships with staff, members and a wide variety of stakeholders globally. Possessing exemplary communication skills, along with excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, the ED sought will be inspired by and attuned to the priorities and values of ILGA.
Drawing on their substantive understanding of social movements and/or experience leading an LGBTI organisation, the ideal candidate is an energetic, passionate and compassionate visionary who will ensure ILGA’s ability to deliver on its mission and increase its impact globally.
This position is based in Geneva, Switzerland. ILGA’s languages of operation are English and Spanish. Fluency in English is required for the position and proficiency or fluency in Spanish is a definite asset. Fluency or proficiency in French, though not required, is desirable and would also be considered an asset.
