Maria Ihler (they/them) is ILGA’s UN Programme Intern for Treaty Bodies and Special Procedures. Maria holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Oslo and McGill University. Their final thesis was an extensive comparison of European countries’ asylum laws relating to sexual orientation.
Maria has been actively involved in queer and feminist advocacy through Skeiv Verden (Queer World), the Norwegian organisation for LGBTQ people with a minority background. They have also assisted in organising EuroPride and providing trans student services, and are currently volunteering at the Quebec Gay Archives (AGQ). Prior to joining ILGA, Maria worked as an intern at the Norwegian Embassy in Ottawa.
Maria is particularly passionate about women’s, trans and migrant issues. They are currently based in Montréal, Canada.
