WELCOME (BACK) TO… OUR LGBULLETIN!

Today ILGA World is delighted to announce that the LGBulleTIn, our weekly dispatch of LGBTI news of the world, will be back on Friday 6 December 2019 after a one-year hiatus.

Week after week, our members and readers will be given access to a collection of news affecting people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions and sex characteristics in every part of the world – told with journalistic accuracy and yet firmly rooted in the voices of our communities.

Readers will be able to find the LGBulleTIn

* on our ilga.org website
* shared on our social media pages
* directly in their inboxes, by subscribing to the newsletter

The LGBulleTIn will pick up our where we left off, but a lot has changed, too.

There is a completely refreshed look and structure, which will improve the articles’ readability and allow people to access regional news more easily.

We will also offer a Spanish translation of every edition of the bulletin, which will be available every Monday morning (interested in volunteering for these translations? Get in touch with us at [email protected]).

Why are we bringing the LGBulleTIn back?

Despite LGBTI people having never been so visibly present in newsrooms worldwide, many media outlets offering a dedicated platform to our voices have recently gone through a rough patch. After the renaissance that we witnessed only a few years ago, some very popular LGBTI news media were forced to close operations or to reduce their presence on the shelves. Staff were laid off. Dedicated channels on mainstream media reduced the frequency of publications of LGBTI stories.

While some publications are resisting (or even growing), and still doing an excellent job in ensuring that our stories do not disappear from the radar of a larger readership, the whole situation appears to be in flux. At a time where the anti-rights rhetoric is getting stronger and stronger across the world, we cannot give up spaces for LGBTI voices to be heard. ILGA World is determined to raise those voices, especially of those who are most marginalised and underrepresented: we hope that bringing the LGBulleTIn will be a powerful space where our stories will be told.

We need your help!

If you have got news from your country on region, or have spotted studies and researches about our communities, let us know at [email protected]! Every week, we will review your tips and consider them for publication.

The new LGBulleTIn will be written by Kellyn Botha and edited by Daniele Paletta.
We hope you will like it.

Our LGBulleTIn is out every Friday: read it on the ilga.org website, find it on our social media pages or subscribe to the newsletter to receive it directly in your inbox!
