ILGA WELCOMES JULIA EHRT AS OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMES

Dear member organisations, fellow activists and friends, we are delighted to welcome Julia Ehrt to the ILGA World team.

A pioneer in trans self-organising in Europe and in advocacy work, Julia will join ILGA as the new Director of Programmes at our headquarters in Geneva, following an intermediate period between her role as Executive Director of Transgender Europe (TGEU) and the new position within our organisation.

Julia will formally start at ILGA on 1 January 2019. As Julia moves out of her role as Executive Director of TGEU over the remaining weeks of 2018, she will be phasing-in her work with ILGA as our “Incoming Director of Programmes”.

At ILGA, Julia will be tasked to head-up our programmatic area and manage our programmes team, exploring new avenues and opportunities for work while ensuring that ILGA’s programmes are in line with our strategic plans, relevant to LGBTI communities worldwide and sensitive to their needs.

Before joining ILGA, she was the Executive Director of Transgender Europe and has been central to TGEU’s growth and development in the last decade. She gained wide recognition as a trans activist in Europe, and contributed significantly to how trans issues are perceived and debated today in the region and beyond.

She is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Trans Fund (ITF), a board member of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) and a signatory to the Yogyakarta Principles plus 10. Julia holds a PhD in mathematics and lives with her partner and child in Berlin and in Geneva.
