Given the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the Human Rights Council suspended its 43rd session on 13 March 2020. The session was resumed on 15 June 2020.

INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE WITH THE SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON ADEQUATE HOUSING

In this joint statement prepared in consultation with Aleanca LGBT and LGBTI ERA, we raised awareness of how LGBTI persons face discrimination in accessing housing, and some of us are in particularly vulnerable situations - a vulnerability increased by homelessness.

ITEM 4 GENERAL DEBATE - HUMAN RIGHTS SITUATIONS THAT REQUIRE THE COUNCIL'S ATTENTION

In this statement, we drew attention to how our communities worldwide keep being disproportionately exposed to discrimination and violence - among “LGBT-free zones”, killings, States failing to enact laws that protect us, and more.

URGENT DEBATE - CURRENT RACIALLY INSPIRED HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS, SYSTEMIC RACISM, POLICE BRUTALITY AND THE VIOLENCE AGAINST PEACEFUL PROTEST

During this urgent debate, together with Race and Equality we highlighted how afro descendant LGBTI people are killed around the world, and their deaths are often ignored. Such crimes are often not investigated properly, which leads to impunity. International human rights law must be the framework that guides States in response to acts such as these.

The COVID-19 public health crisis has far-reaching human rights consequences. Vulnerable groups, including LGBTI persons, have been disproportionately affected. Amidst all this, we noted best practices to protect their rights: we shared them with the Human Rights

Adoption of UPR outcomes

KAZAKHSTAN

In this statement, made in consultation with Feminita, we highlighted how Kazakhstan accepted one recommendation on LGBTI human rights defenders, but it unfortunately decided to note the 10 recommendations calling for non-discrimination protection on the basis of SOGI.
