Amanda Kamanda (she/her) is a trans activist and human rights defender from Uganda with six years of experience advocating for the rights of LGBTIQ persons towards inclusive access to legal justice, universal health care, economic empowerment, gender equality and youth leadership.
Amanda has worked with Transgender Equality Uganda as an assistant programs manager in implementing various projects towards challenging the unfavourable laws and policies that continue to discriminate against transgender persons. She has also supported The Pleasure Project as a research intern in building historical evidence of queer sexual pleasure in Africa on their current project in partnership with IPPF Africa. In addition, Amanda was among the 25 Young leaders of the She Decides movement on the ICPD+25 Agenda at the 2019 Nairobi summit.
Amanda holds an MSc in international development, social justice and sustainability from the University of Bath and an undergraduate degree in business administration from ISBAT university. She is a 2020 UN Religion Fellow with Outright International and a 2018 UN Rainbow Advocacy Fellow with RFSL.
Outside of work, she is a model, guitarist and the current miss Trans Global Uganda 2022.
