Facing bias, 32 transgenders struggle to find a home

in INDIA, 14/07/2013

About three months ago, 18-year-old Kajal, a resident of Shapar-Veraval village, some 15 km away from Rajkot, was asked to leave his home because he declared himself as a transgender.

However, this was just the beginning of Kajal's trauma. He was forced to live outside a tea stall on Gondal Road without a roof over his head as no one was willing to rent him a house. At last, with severe restrictions, one person agreed to give him a room but for a lofty rent of Rs 2,000.
