A call for each and every lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer Muslim around the globe
As-salamu aleikum wa Rahmetullahi wa Berekatuhu! In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful!
Dear Friends, This is a call for each and every lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer Muslim around the globe (but particularly in Muslim countries) to join the International Initiative for Visibility of Queer Muslims and take part in planning the future steps of our worldwide community. The Initiative is supported from ILGA (International Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Association)
, IGLHRC (International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission), IGLYO (International Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Youth and Student Organisation), HELEM (the only LGBTQ organisation in the Middle East) as well as from various other international queer and human rights organisations. Its primary mission is to gather queer Muslim organisations, scholars, and activists who will speak out
for the oppressed international queer Muslim community, contribute to the creation and development of the LGBTIQ Movement especially in Muslim countries, and represent its interests in the international human rights arena (UNCHR in particular). The Initiative itself is not an organisation, but the group of committed LGBTIQ activists and scholars
whose primary goal is to foster better communication and understanding among the queer Muslims. As such it does not oppose any other queer Muslim association, but congratulates its work and achievements. Therefore it especially encourages representatives of the associations such as Al-Fatiha to join the forum and contribute to the future activities of the Initiative. These are the very first steps and we need you!
The time has come for the queer Muslims and those who support them to get internationally united and raise their voice for millions of the oppressed queer people living under so called Islamic regimes. Those people need a shelter and hope. They also need to understand that not all the Muslims in the world approve and accept their daily suffering.
May Allah (swt) reward the best all of you, around the world!
