30 transgenders to get green houses

in INDIA, 31/07/2013

As many as 30 transgenders will get individual concrete roof houses, each measuring 300 sq.ft., at Panjukadupudur in Thekkampatti panchayat, near Mettupalayam, in Coimbatore soon.

The scheme was announced in the Governor's address in the Assembly on June 3, 2011 and the State Government explained in its order that green houses - where only green energy would be used - would be provided for the differently abled, widows, destitute women, women heading families, transgenders, HIV affected persons and those hit by natural calamities.

The government planned to provide three lakh houses over five years and the target for the first year i.e., 2011-2012 was fixed at 60,000.

The houses, each having a bedroom, kitchen, toilet and verandah, were to be built at a cost of Rs. 1.5 lakh and green energy systems were to be provided at Rs. 30,000. The cost of construction was then revised to Rs. 1.8 lakh.
