Global Action for Trans* Equality is hiring a policy officer HIV/AIDS in the Africa or Asia/Pacific regions.
Policy Officer HIV/AIDS Position Description
The Policy Officer HIV/AIDS will be responsible for developing and implementing GATE’s agenda for HIV/AIDS policy and advocacy work for trans*identities at the international level with international organizations, such as UNAIDS, key governments, bi- and multi-lateral organizations, and funding agencies. The goal will be a supportive policy environment that ensures quality HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services at individual, community, and regional levels for trans*individuals.
The work will consider overall health and wellbeing of trans* communities, in addition to HIV/STI and sexual-health related issues. A careful attention will be given to key gaps in current HIV prevention models; for example, failure to recognize the distinct needs of trans* communities and conflation of trans* identities with MSM, leaving out trans* masculine identities, and a lack of focus on overall health and wellbeing in addition to HIV/STI and sexual health.
The Policy Officer HIV/AIDS will be required to carry out policy analysis and research; to develop strategies for advocacy, develop communications and build networks; strategize capacity building for trans* activists, organizations and networks; create program-related documentation including policy briefs, abstracts for international conferences, and process documentation and reporting. The Policy Officer will do this towards furthering trans* equality in the context of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment.
The Policy Officer HIV/AIDS will be based will in Africa or Asia/Pacific, and their core focus will be on the intersection of HIV/AIDS and trans*identities.
