We commend the High Commissioner for her leadership in solidifying the Office’s commitment in calling for an end to human rights violations against all persons, including those who face violence, discrimination, stigma and abuse because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or intersex status.

It’s been three years since the Human Rights Council adopted its first resolution on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity. While serious violations continue in all regions, the Council is yet to engage in a follow up resolution.
At this session of the HRC we have an opportunity to build momentum and support for change. The following joint NGO statement urges the Council to act now and end the violence and discrimination suffered by LGBTI people around the world. With your help, we can ensure this statement has maximum impact.
ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, has awarded today UN High Commissioner Navanethem Pillay “LGBTI Friend of the Year 2014” in a ceremony at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on the occasion of the launch of the 2014 issue of the Annual State Sponsored Homophobia Report and map, at the presence of the UN Ambassadors of Argentina and Brazil.
Recently ILGA received the Pioneer Award at the convention of IGLTA, The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association for the work the organisation is doing for human rights and the safety of LGBTI people around the world.
Arianna is a story inspired to the real life of 19 year-old intersex (5-ARD) who had believed to be a girl for her entire life. When she was just a little child her parents, in accord with the doctors, chose she would have a sex reassignment, making her the girl they wanted. This is feature film is a trip into the discover of her past, a movie that discloses the intersex. Intersex people are about three million in the world, but Arianna is a film about all of us. >>>
While we celebrate the advancements that countries worldwide have made in recognizing the rights of LGBT people, including those of young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, many still face discrimination and violence, among other human rights violations, because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
