Vietnamese transgenders battle against bigotry

While Vietnam's gay rights movement is making significant headway in the fight for equality, the country's transgender community remains relatively marginalised.

Legislators have included homosexuals in a debate over revisions to the Marriage and Family Law, which is expected to give gay couples property rights.

Author of the book ‘Transgender’, Nguyen Ngoc Thach says Vietnam’s transgender community doesn’t share the same status in national dialogue.

"On stage – to perform – we can do everything, but in real life it’s not," he said.
