National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) detained media personnel on Wednesday when they came to ask their opinion regarding the issue of ID cards for transgenders.

Teams of Daily Dawn and Express News were detained and Nadra officials also tried to break their equipment.

The media had gone to the Nadra office to record their statement on why transgenders have not been issued identity cards despite the orders of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, around 30 members of the transgender community protested in front of the office on failing to receive their identity cards.

An FIR was registered at the Civil Lines Police Station under section 342, 427 and 506 against five people, including Deputy Director Nadra Dera Ghazi Khan Mazhar Hussain.

The respondents have been blamed for harassing, torturing and abusing media personnel, attacking a cameraman and breaking his camera.
