Stephen Barris leaves ILGA after 10 years of dedicated commitment

Working with and for ILGA has been a wonderful adventure on many levels. It has given me a unique opportunity to try to be useful in general and «do my bit » to advance our global struggle. I wish of course I had done more and better. I feel truly privileged to have contributed to the life of an association such as ILGA and to have met and collaborated with so many exceptional people from round the globe. This work has offered me wonderful friendships! I remain of course faithful to ILGA’s ideal, one of a world federation of organisations allowing LGBTI and queer people to organise and speak on their own behalf. This has been particularly true in this historic and exciting period where we, as a movement, have gained more international visibility and power while slowly seeing the emergence of regional federations. I wish ILGA, Pan Africa ILGA, ILGA-Asia, ILGA-Europe, ILGA-LAC, ILGA-North America and ILGA-Oceania long and successful lives! ¡ Vamos por más !

In a joint message, the Board and the Executive Director said: “The contribution of Stephen to the development of ILGA has been crucial to say the least, and most of what we have achieved now has been possible only because of Stephen’s ability to set up a functioning work unit from 2003 onwards. Stephen’s competence and creativity, combined with genuine commitment and a warm personality, have won him the trust and gratitude of all ILGA members, especially in those first years as his very role embodied for all of them the concrete hope and certainty that ILGA was at last on the way of becoming a professional organisation. We are very grateful to Stephen for his qualified engagement in all these years and wish him all the best for his future.”
