The High Representative strongly condemns the assassination on July 15 Eric Ohena Lembembe, in Yaounde, Cameroon, in conditions may be presumed torture.
Mr. Ohena Lembembe was a committed journalist and human rights of lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI). The High Representative has its condolences to his family and the community of human rights in Cameroon.
The High Representative calls on the Cameroonian authorities to launch an investigation without delay serious and thorough investigation into the torture and murder of Mr. Ohena Lembembe so that responsible are brought to justice.
The EU reaffirms its commitment to the right of any person, wherever located, to receive without discrimination, of all human rights, and commitment to see respected everywhere in the world the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees the equality of all
human beings in dignity and rights, including LGBTI people. "
