This exchange took the opportunity to address several points that ranged from the process of accepting one’s sexuality, through the importance of family support in the process out of the closet and homophobia situation in Paraguay.
For the first time, homophobia is confronted within the Paraguayan family. The family is considered the foundation of society, as it is the first stage of socialization, the place to learn about our culture, customs and social rules.
The support of our families is very important at different times in our lives during the difficult years of our adolescence and young adulthood. In the case of young women and gays and lesbians, family support will help them overcome the homophobia still very strong in our society, said Simon Cazal SOMOSGAY leader.
The topic took a large central space time in the morning and received messages from all over the country, many of which contained specific questions about homosexuality and the best way of tackling out of the closet within the various families. The diversity of topics covered, coupled with extensive air space provided by the television station, gave an unprecedented opportunity in the Paraguayan television to raise the equality agenda driven by SOMOSGAY.
SOMOSGAY highlights its participation in media spaces, its clear organizational commitment in the fight against homophobia and thanked the media persons, journalists and drivers, in their role as important allies in this undertaking.
