Push for more Kimberley transgender support

A transgender person living in Western Australia's north says an increase in support services in regional areas would reduce the flow of people to urban centres.\n

Samantha-Lee Cassidy was born a male in Sydney but now identifies as a woman and lives in the Kimberley.

She has been trying to draw together a transgender community in the region, to offer support to younger people in particular. Ms Cassidy says it is a pity so many people who have a non-conventional gender identity end up having to move to the city to be accepted.

"Most of the transgender people I know who come from regional areas will end up moving to large cities, mainly for the anonymity," she said.
