African Men for Sexual Health and Rights [AMSHeR] would like to formally introduce our newest member of staff, Mr Berry Didier Nibogora. Berry is AMSHeR’s Policy and Law Coordinator in Francophone Africa, under our Law and Human Rights programme, which supports human rights organisations to undertake evidence-based advocacy on MSM/LGBTI issues and to design context specific responses to these issues; strengthen the capacity of national human rights institutions, civil society and other stakeholders to understand and mainstream the rights of LGBTI persons in broader national human rights discourse as well as to respond to human rights violations against LGBTI persons.
Mr Berry is a Human Rights Lawyer with sound experience in human rights advocacy and training, conflict transformation and mediation with refugees, IDPs and the youth in Burundi, Rwanda and DRC. Berry has been advocating for universal respect of Human rights since 2007 in those three countries where he worked specifically in projects involving the youth. He holds a LLB in Law from University of Burundi and a Masters degree (LL.M) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Human Rights. His education, research, interests and activities involved significant work on LGBTI human rights, especially during his stay in South Africa and thereafter.
Prior to joining AMSHeR, Berry was working as a full-time Researcher and Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Burundi and as a Visiting Lecturer at the Wisdom University of Africa, Martin Luther King University and Lake Tanganyika University where he was teaching mainly International Human Rights Law, Family Law, Public International Law, Comparative Legal systems in Africa and the Law governing International Organizations.
