Iran’s Speaker of the Parliament calls Homosexuality an “animalistic behavior

In a March 17 speech that was reported by the semi-official FarsNews, Dr. Mohammad Javad Larijani, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) dismissed the Western criticism of Iran's human rights record and said, "One of the human rights violations that Iran is accused of is thecriminalization of homosexuality... Homosexuality is animalistic and we haveno place for it in our value system. We are not ashamed of rejecting\nhomosexuality nor are we bashful of stating that our value system is notcompatible with this animalistic behavior."\n

Mr. Larijani’s comment came 3 days after a former adviser to President Ahmadinejad told the Iranian media that Iran is proud of violating gay rights. Mr. Mehrdad Bazrpash, former Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Editor in Chief of Vatan-e-Emrooz newspaper, in an interview with Fars news agency found it interesting "that the Islamic government is accused of violating gay rights! Indeed the Islamic Republic is proud to violate homosexual rights."
