When travelling to Ha Noi I asked my Vietnamese boyfriend to look for an accomodation there. We arrived late, I had to give my passport and my bf his identiy card. But there were no problems. Maybe some looks because it is a little strange that a white guy sleeps in same bed as a Vietnamese. My bf told me later, that the hotel will not ask questions. I pay them. If I only had payd for me and took some guy to the room it would be different, then they would ask questions. The same was in the taxi. I had not seen my bf very long, so that we were holding hands in the taxi. After my question, why my shy bf is so open here in the taxi, he answered also that the taxi driver not cares about gay or not, because we pay him. The same occured in Da Nang, where I stayed with my bf in a nice hotel in the city. We faced no problems there. I never saw the reception crew talking about us, or making some comments.
It seems that people in the cities are more open than on the countryside. But actually, I live with my bf now together. The family acccepted us being gay. But I am not openly gay here. Only my friends know.
