DANA WAS interviewed by Stephen J Costello in a fascinating and wide-ranging conversation in his book, The Irish Soul in Dialogue (Liffey Press, 2001). Her views on homosexuality were examined in detail and the discussion took an usual turn when Costello asked: “What do you thing of Dana International, who recently won the Eurovision, who is a great fan of yours and who created a huge controversy among the Orthodox Jews in Israel because he is a transsexual?” Dana replied: “I wasn’t in the country at the time. I was quite upset that he was better looking than me!”
