The government of Gambia through the personal homophobic attitude of the head of state is very hostile to homosexual orientation. He had made many hostile statements againist homosexual Gambians and homosexual immigrants in the counrty. Recently twenty peopl, eighteen men and two women where arrested and are currently taken to court alledged for homosexual practices. The president made a seriously threatening statement earlier on May 20th that any person found guilty of homosexual offenses will sent to jail and in a lone cell where the individual will not see anyone ie the person will be iprisoned in a solitary confinement.
Gambia Secular Assembly, a secular humanist, science, reason, critical thinking, human rights and good governance organization for the time the president made the hostile sattement has challenged the statements in a nineteen page open letter to government of The Gambia with a strong scientifically proven arguements of the narurality of homosexuality and a call to the government to end the court proceedings against the twenty accused persons. We are now taking it up to struggle for the rights of LGBTI people of the country and will need collaborators to work in partnership with. The nineteen page Open Letter was published in the Standard Newspaper of teh Gambia, but it is unfortunate that the paper is not online but we can share scan copies of the different parts of the Open Letter that was published in a series by the Statdard Newspaper. The Gambian state's hostility to LGBTI people in the country was further manifested in a recentlt launched operation named: Operation Bulldozer which the head of state said he will supervise himself. The Operation targets drug dealers, paedophiles, murders, human traffickers, armed robbers and homosexuals.
