Scotland annouced plans to also legalise gay marriages in 2014. The UK government has shown strong support for LGBT rights, both in the UK and overseas...

Closer to home, Asia has seen some really positive moves towards equality, with Taiwan’s parliament agreeing to debate a same sex marriage bill despite opposition from religious groups opposed to equality.

In communist run Vietnam, the ruling party has moved towards legislating same sex marriage through a series of community consultations sponsored by government departments and othe civic groups. Hanoi succesfully held its second annual Pride day without permits but also without official opposition.

China has relaxed policy and began to support the right of gays and lesbians in a limited way. More is expected as China’s new leadership takes over.
