Victoria becomes first Australian state to expunge records of men convicted of gay sex

in AUSTRALIA, 12/01/2014

The Australian state of Victoria will be the first in the country to erase the criminal records of men who were previously convicted for having gay sex before it was decriminalised in 1981.

Under the policy, anyone with a historical conviction for an offence relating to consensual homosexual acts would be able to apply to have their conviction expunged, provided the offence is not a crime under current legislation. Convictions for non-consensual sex or sex with a minor will remain. Read more
