Now Israel is embracing LGBTI rights, whether you are religious or not

Israeli gay and trans rights activist Avi Soffer argues the new government has seen a big shift on promoting LGBTI equality in the country.

Israel’s first elected gay Member of the Knesset (the Israeli parliament), Nitzan Horowitz, has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using Iran’s persecution of homosexuals to attack it on the world stage while doing nothing to advance gay rights at home.

I am wondering, do we both live in the same country in the same era?

In March 2013, a dramatic change had occurred in the LGBT community lives in Israel. For the first time in years, a government without the Ultra Orthodox Haredi parties was established.

It is a right wing and center government made of Netanyahu’s center-right Likud party and Yesh Atid (a party targeted at the secular middle classes) with the minister of finance Yair Lapid, together with the defense minister, one of the strongest ministers in government.
