Eunuch may slap defamation case on Eshwarappa

in INDIA, 30/11/2013

Eunuchs in the state are gunning for former deputy chief minister and BJP leader K S Eshwarappa for using the word 'hijra' — a derogatory term for a eunuch — at a public rally recently.

Karnataka Eunuchs Association associate secretary Khushboo has now threatened to file a defamation case against Eshwarappa at the Mayo Hall metropolitan magistrate court on Friday. Karnataka Eunuchs Association represents over 10,000 eunuchs.

At a public rally in Koppal on November 11, Eshwarappa had called PM Dr Manmohan Singh a 'hijra'. Since then, eunuchs across Karnataka have staged protests against Eshwarappa for insulting their community.

Khushboo told Bangalore Mirror, "When Eshwarappa was a minister in the previous BJP government in the state, the word 'hijra' was replaced with Mangalamukhi (the auspicious ones) in official records. How can he now insult us with the very same word? He should apologise for his remarks."
