None on Record: Stories of Queer Africa is pleased to invite East African LGBTI organisations to apply to participate in a six-week multi-media training. The training will take place in mid-2013.
About None on Record
None on Record: Stories of Queer Africa is a transnational digital media project that records, distributes and archives the stories of LGBTI Africans, both on the continent and in the Diaspora.
Our mission is to document the hopes, struggles, challenges and joys of being an LGBTI African. We work to enable LGBTI Africans to tell their stories in their own voices.
The Training
The purpose of the multi-media training is to equip LGBTI organisations with the technology, skills and experience necessary to document their work and the movement in their region, and to produce media for advocacy.
None on Record will conduct the training in the organisation’s place of work, in order to tailor the training to the situation on the ground. Together, NOR and the selected organisation will work on a project developed by group members.
NOR uses the citizen journalism approach to build on existing media skills and allow community members with no previous journalism or media experience to share their stories with a larger audience for the first time. The group will gain skills in audio, photo and/or video documentation, depending on their organisational needs. Participants will acquire technical skills through workshops, practical exercises and documentation in the field.
Requirements
Participants will be selected on the basis of organisations’ interest in the use of media for advocacy and documentation, and the clarity and innovation of their media project proposal.
To Apply
To apply, please email kat@noneonrecord.com, with a short summary of your organisation’s location, focus and past projects. Include a one-page concept note of a digital media project you would like to undertake: what type media you would like to use, the target audience, the security concerns involved, and the goal or expected results of your project. Submissions can be made in English, French or Kiswahili.
Deadline for applications is March 15, 2013
