'Supply of free anti-retroviral treatment sufficient'

The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday assured HIV patients that the supply of free anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment is not about to end as the Global Fund to Fight HIV has agreed to continue supporting the Philippines’ anti-AIDS programs.

Dr. Gerard Belimac, program manager of the DOH’s National AIDS/Sexuality Transmitted Infection Prevention and Control Program, said the Global Fund will not totally cancel its subsidy but programs will have to be focused on “problematic” areas.

“The funding will not end. It will continue but we have to target the areas with biggest problem on AIDS,” he said in an interview on the sideline of the 12th Philippine National AIDS Convention, which was organized by the AIDS Society of the Philippines.
