Thousands of protesters have rallied in Melbourne in support of gay marriage.
Rainbow banners, flags and mohawks adorned the youthful crowd who flocked to the city's state library, cheering and waving placards.
Greens deputy leader and federal Melbourne MP Adam Bandt, who has tabled a bill in parliament on the issue, asked the crowd to urge their local member to vote in favour of gay legislation.
