The inauguration of the fifth Conference of ILGALAC, the Latin American and Caribbean region of ILGA took place Wednesday January 27 2010, with a gala dinner in the modern convention center Estação Embratel in Curitiba, Brazil.
This event was attended by more than 400 representatives from 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (including guest from North America and Europe), officials from the Brazilian government and UN agencies.
Before dinner, a message from Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was read in which the President, reiterated his support to the work of LGBT organizations, as well as his intention to implement the third Human rights National Plan (PNDH-3). The Minister of the Special Secretary of Human rights, Paulo Vannuchi emphasized the importance of the plan, which will foment key action, like civil unions and adoption by same sex couples.
