28 year old singer Li Na, one of top five finalists in the 2006 Supergirls talent competition and now a successful recording artiste with a huge following, has now become the first mainland Chinese celebrity to make an "It Gets Better" video.
"It Gets Better" is a campaign started by American writer Dan Savage in the wake of the epidemic of gay youth suicides across the United States in 2010 that aims to inspire hope for young people facing harrassment because of their sexual orientation. It has since exploded into a worldwide movement with over 10,000 user-created videos viewed over 35 million times, with big names like Barack Obama, HIllary Clinton, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Suze Orman, Ellen de Generes, and the staffs of multinationals like Facebook, Google and Apple sending in their own submissions.
The Chinese campaign "明天会更好" (lit. "Tomorrow will be better") is spearheaded by Fan Popo, founder of China Queer Independent Films, and curator of the ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival.
