ILGA Joins the Panel of Experts of the LGBT Conference to be Held during the OutGames
The 1st World Outgames Montréal 2006 is a major athletic and cultural event that brings together people from all over the world. Based on the principles of Participation and Celebration, Respect and Fairness, Innovation, Diversity and Empowerment, the games welcome everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, age, gender, race, religion, nationality, ethnicity, physical challenge, political beliefs, physical ability, athletic/artistic skills or HIV/ health status.
There are no minimum athletic standards to qualify for the Outgames. The only requirement is the desire to support the ideals of the Outgames. People with specific needs or disabilities are integrated as full-fledged participants, volunteers, officials and spectators. By accepting the Outgames’ challenge, all Outgames participants automatically become winners.
The Outgames are a safe and accepting environment where participants may express themselves openly and enjoy the camaraderie and rewards of sport, culture and art. In fact, the experience can be the highlight of a lifetime!
As individuals, participants celebrate personal achievement; as a collective, we experience group solidarity and celebrate the diversity and scope of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. Through the athletic and arts and cultural events of the Outgames, stereotypes are challenged and barriers broken down.More "firsts" for GLBT Sport and Quality"Montréal 2006
is proud to announce that for the first time in the history of GLBT sporting competitions; FISA (Fédération internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron) has registered our regatta in its official international calendar. In another “first”, Skate Canada, one of the most important national member federations of the ISU (International Skating Union) will sanction the Outgames’ figure skating competitions, including categories for same-sex couples. This happy news has been received with great enthusiasm from skaters around the world.
The sanctioning process has been completed with the federations governing the various sports. Sanctioned sports ensure that Outgames competitions will conform to the norms, rules and standards of mainstream national and international sport federations. For athletes participating in the 1st World Outgames, this means that Montréal 2006 will have access to technical expertise from recognized and trained individuals, including access to experienced, competent officials for Outgames competitions. These officials attend regular clinics and training sessions and are on the forefront of the latest changes and developments in their respective sports, ensuring high-quality competitions that meet the highest standard of excellence.Cultural events are part of the Games!
