Which countries will vote?
List of the countriesThe following 14 countries were the ones whose terms on the CHR expired this
year:Armenia, Austria, Bahrain, Chile, Croatia, France, Mexico, Pakistan,
Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, the Sudan, Sweden, Togo, Uganda.
The following 14 countries have just been elected or acclaimed for a new
three-year term:Armenia, Canada, Ecuador, Finland, France, Guinea, Kenya, Malaysia,
Mexico, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Romania, the Sudan, Togo.
Nothing prevents a country whose term has expired from being re-elected. Some of the 'new appointees' are in reality previous CHR members whose terms have just been renewed for a further three years.
Leaving aside the returning members, the newcomers are: Canada, Ecuador,
Finland, Guinea, Kenya, Malaysia and Romania, which are replacing Austria,
Bahrain, Chile, Croatia, Sierra Leone, Sweden, and Uganda. As a result,
only seven members on the CHR have changed.
Regionally, the breakdown is as follows:Africa:2005: Guinea, Kenya, Sudan, Togo
('replacing': Sierra Leone, Sudan, Togo, Uganda)
