Many Saudi women openly took to the roads last Friday in defiance of an official ban on female drivers. Mrs Clinton said they were "right" to press their demands in the ultra-conservative kingdom, in her first public comments on the issue.
The Baladi Campaign was launched by a group of women activists from across Saudi Arabia after the Saudi government announced in March that it would deny women their right to political participation in the upcoming September 2011 elections.
