The second review of the Republic of Korea under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) took place on the 25 October, and began with a presentation by Mr Ghil Tae-Ki, Vice-Minister for Justice. The delegation was high-level, and included the Gender Minister and the Director of Human Rights Policy at the Ministry of Justice.
The Community Solutions Program is a professional development program for the best and brightest global community leaders working in Transparency & Accountability, Tolerance/Conflict Resolution, Environmental Issues, and Women’s Issues. Selected candidates will participate in: a four month US fellowship with a local nonprofit organization or government agency; structured virtual learning and networking via the Online Community Leadership Institute; and, the design and implementation of follow-on projects in their home countries. While the recent findings of the fourth Gender and Media Summit revealed that gender equality in newsrooms and local news in the SADEC region is lacking, women who engage in same sex practices continue to be ridiculed and frowned upon in the media, media professionals being the perpetrators.
